The poem I wrote after speaking with a woman who was dealing with profound grief amidst the loss of many kinfolk, including her son.

The Meltdown

The leviathan materializes abruptly from the murk

No burden does it tempt from wherever it may lurk

Paralyzing terror makes hairs stand at attention

Silent screaming anxiety, staggering detention

Masks fall into place as neatly as you please

To obscure the malady of the tormenting mind disease
